Amy Recco and Melanie Duffy Receive Community Service Award

On Tuesday, September 29th, Amy Recco, Owner of Friends for Life Homecare and Melanie Duffy, Owner of Broadway Gourmet Caterers were recognized for their exceptional contribution to their community during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This dynamic duo teamed up and gave back to the front lines and residents throughout their community. They donated hundreds of lunches to the staff at Rehabilitation Centers, Assisted Livings, Nursing Homes and Hospitals.

Melanie and Amy also coordinated a Facebook Giveaway. The give-away offered senior citizens living alone during the pandemic, the opportunity to win a full course meal from Broadway Gourmet delivered straight to their doorstep.

The awards ceremony also honored Amy and Melanie for their individual acts of heroism. Amy Recco created a fundraiser selling “Massapequa Strong” T-shirts. The T-shirt sales raised over $10k for St. Rose Outreach. This money helped fill local food pantries after experiencing a shortage due to the pandemic. Amy and her team also hand-delivered food and post cards to a number of seniors who were isolated during quarantine.

Melanie started the “Feed our Heroes Mission”. During the mission, she matched all donations to feed our healthcare heroes. She partnered with St. Josephs meals, Massapequa Dads, Friends for Life Homecare and donated to front line workers and residents in and around our community. Melanie also teamed up with retired police officers to help feed over 1,000 of N.Y.C.’s police force.

“For me, it has always been Broadway Gourmet and Friends for Life. We truly make a great team!” said Amy Recco during her acceptance speech. Both women were grateful for their husbands (co-owners) and teams and stated that “none of this would be possible without them”.
